What's Up With The Gravedigger Theory From Game Of Thrones?

There are rumours popping up that Rory Mccann (the actor who plays the hound) has been sighted in Belfast. However, he hasn't been spotted on the Game of thrones set.

But it shouldn't be a surprise if the hound actually makes an appearance in Game of Thrones season 6. The reason being that his ending in season 4 was an uncertain one. Even when the books are taken into account, its still not clear if he is actually coming back or not. So one should realise that these Gravedigger and CleganeBowl theories are just pure speculations.

Lets talk about the Gravedigger theory as it being the one that spawns all the other theories related to the hound's return. This theory is originated from Brienne's storyline in Book 4. If you remember right, Brienne (in season 4)  leaves King's Landing on a mission to find the surviving Starks. This act does also happen in the book even though it being at a different point in time.

During Brienne's journey she comes across an island called the 'Quiet Isle'. This island happens to be populated by monks. These monks under servitude typically cover themselves in wrappings thereby making them difficult to identify. They are all basically anonymous.

While on this island, Brienne meets this person called the gravedigger. The reasons why people speculate this gravedigger to be the hound are three:

  • The Elder Brother incharge knows way to much about the pain and sufferings the hound experienced, thereby making it too much to be a coincidence.
  • The gravedigger happens to be a person bigger than Brienne. The number of people in Westeros bigger than Brienne, the hound or the mountain are very few.
  • The Hound's horse 'The Stranger' is also seen on the island.
So all the signs point to the possibility of the hound happening to settle in this island, so as to forget his past and start anew.

Game of thrones season 6 is expected to premiere in spring 2016 on HBO.
